BOS – Balance of Systems

Balance-of-System or BOS refers to the components and equipment that move the electricity produced by the solar power system. Most often it refers to all components other than the solar modules, the inverter and the framing system.

The Balance-Of-System includes:

Cables/wires – to transport the electricity from the solar modules to the grid.

Protective conduitto protect the electrical cables

Switches/isolators- to provide ways of stopping the current and voltage to the equipment, allowing servicing, or in the event of an emergency

Enclosures protecting the switches and isolators

Earthing lugs- to connect the solar modules to the earthing system of the house

Labels- giving clear indication of what the system includes and instruction on how to turn the system off

Australian and New Zealand electrical standards strictly govern what and how solar components can be used to ensure maximum safety.
